6th Kurdistan International Independent Film Festival (KIIFF)

Kurdistan International Independent Film Festival (KIIFF) is an international hybrid film festival dedicated to championing bold, independent voices in contemporary cinema.
KIIFF’s core mission is to curate a highly selective, artistically driven program reflecting the evolving language of global filmmaking. The festival serves as a dynamic platform for discovery, dialogue, and exhibition, bringing together filmmakers, industry professionals, and cinephiles through a combination of curated online screenings, theatrical opportunities, filmmaker conversations, and exclusive presentations.
With a strong commitment to artistic integrity and cultural diversity, KIIFF prioritizes quality over quantity, presenting a carefully curated selection of films across all genres. Each edition is designed as a focused cinematic event, emphasizing meaningful engagement between creators and audiences. The festival maintains a highly competitive selection process, with a limited number of films selected per edition.
Festival Structure & Program
KIIFF operates as a hybrid festival, combining a curated digital screening platform with selected physical showcase events.
All officially selected films are presented through the festival’s official online platform, allowing global audiences to access the program through ticketed screenings worldwide.
In addition to its screenings, KIIFF hosts an ongoing Filmmaker Interview & Talks Program, offering in-depth conversations with filmmakers, screenwriters, and actors. These interviews explore the creative process, artistic challenges, and the evolving language of independent cinema, and are released as part of the festival’s official program.
Industry Opportunities
Theatrical Screening Opportunity (Beverly Hills, California)
KIIFF provides a dedicated theatrical screening pathway for one selected short film through a 7-day paid public screening in Beverly Hills.
This screening is designed to align with the official theatrical requirements of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for Oscar eligibility in the Short Film category, subject to Academy rules and independent verification.
Kurdish Cinema Showcase (Erbil)
Selected films in the Kurdish category are introduced to the Ministry of Culture of the Kurdistan Regional Government and presented for theatrical screening in Erbil, in collaboration with the Directorate of Cinema and the Kurdistan Cinema Artists Syndicate.
